Speech by General Ulvar Ferrohammer to his Vanguard Regiment, shortly before the battle of Griffon Pass
‘Right lads, I’ll say it again. There is no room for any of these new-fangled ideas in this regiment.
I believe in traditional dwarven values, and I expect you to do the same. A dwarf warrior needs nothing but an axe or hammer, ideally both, to get the solemn gratification of smiting his enemies. No hiding and shooting with bow or guns, blowing them to pieces with cannons, where’s the contentment in that? As for dying your hair, stripping off and painting yourself blue, that’s just showing off. And that’s just not how a traditional dwarf should behave.
That way, when the battle has been won, it makes the drinking of traditional dwarvish ale and singing of dirges more grimly satisfying. None of that craft beer nonsense mind you!
But why do you have cannons and guns and troll killing nudists as part of your army, General Ferrohammer, you might be thinking?
Three reasons. First, when those others see our stoic, grinding shuffle of destruction, they might come around to our thinking and change their ways. Secondly, they are a useful distraction to the enemy, allowing us to do our solemn work with axe and hammer. And finally, if there is one thing I like less than a dwarf with a modern idea, it’s a living goblin!   
So lads, to war! Heft your axes and hammers, set your grimace, and just think of the pork scratchings at the end of the fight. Let ‘em ‘ave it!’
